Nuanu Brings Indonesian Electronic Music to the Main Stage on New Year’s Eve
Publish on 1 January 2026
Nuanu Creative City marks the New Year with performances by over 20 emerging Indonesian alternative and electronic musicians.
While much of Bali welcomed the New Year with familiar formats and imported headliners, Nuanu Creative City chose to listen closer to home. On 31 December 2025, PORTAL x Nuanu brought together 21 Indonesian electronic and alternative musicians for New Year’s Eve shaped by a collective exploration and local creative practice.
As the exclusive home of PORTAL in Bali, the night placed Indonesian artists at the centre of the experience. The result was a celebration led by musicians working across electronic, live, hybrid, and audiovisual formats, reflecting the diversity and experimentation shaping Indonesia’s contemporary sound.
PORTAL x Nuanu unfolded across two stages, Detak and Sumbu, each offering a distinct atmosphere. Detak carried the energy of the night with rhythm-driven electronic and hybrid sets, while Sumbu provided a more performative setting for live works, vocals, and audiovisual explorations focused on the relationship between sound, visuals, and space.
PORTAL comes alive at Nuanu Creative City through live electronic and alternative music performances from Indonesia.
Both stages were set within Block 42, Nuanu’s evolving multi-functional venue built from repurposed shipping containers. Projection mapping activated the container structures throughout the night, transforming the site into a layered, labyrinth-like environment. As audiences moved between stages, shifting light and sound created a sense of moving through interconnected visual portals rather than between fixed performance areas.
Across the evening, the range of performances demonstrated how Indonesian electronic music resonates when given trust, context, and a carefully curated environment.
The lineup featured 21 Indonesian artists spanning electronic, live, hybrid, and audiovisual formats, including Asylum Uniform, Bagvs, Big Chun a.k.a. Naken, Dekadenz, Gumatat Gumitit Gospell (live), JayDawn & Wukir Suryadi, Kuntari (organic set), Mairakilla, Non Archive, Raissa Febriani, Verdy Arien b2b Magis, Txtext (live), Parakuat (live), Alkahfa (hybrid), Paradata (A/V), Su66en9 (hybrid), Pure! Records, Linda b2b Masagi b2b Masayu, Barbara Pleaser, Temu Gerak, and Putu Septa ft. Janurangga.
“For us, having the honor of working alongside the amazing creative communities of Bali and Indonesia and doing something different – something where culture becomes the universal language of love understood across people of very different backgrounds is a true honor. Starting our year with something that exactly reflects the way we want to do things is great” said Lev Kroll, CEO Nuanu Creative City. “Hopefully this year will be like this day – an opportunity to work with so many talented creative people, the privilege of being a platform where people from all over the world fall in love with the complexity of the Indonesian cultural landscape and just a place of playful exploration.”
“Indonesia’s electronic scene is built on collaboration,” said a PORTAL spokesperson. “But it has never been about electronic music alone. PORTAL x Nuanu reflected a broader convergence, where sound moved alongside dance, multimedia installations, and other fringe forms of expression, placing artists and practices, rather than genre, at the center of the night. It is not a closed loop or a repeatable formula, but an ongoing process of evolution shaped by those who pass through it”
With audiences gathering from Bali, across Indonesia, and from the international community present during the year-end holiday period, PORTAL x Nuanu became a meeting point across cultures and contexts. In a season often defined by repetition, the night stood as a compelling example of how a New Year’s celebration can also serve as a long-term investment in Indonesia’s creative future.
