“She Builds, She Leads, She Inspires”: Celebrating Kartini, Women of Nuanu Empower the Next Generation to Shape the Future
Publish on 21 April 2026
From leadership to community impact, women at Nuanu reflect on Kartini’s legacy and its role in shaping the next generation.
In commemoration of Kartini’s Day, Nuanu Creative City presents “She Builds, She Leads, She Inspires”, a living narrative that honors the enduring spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini through the real stories of women shaping one of Bali’s most dynamic creative ecosystems today.
While International Women’s Day in March marks a global movement for gender equality, Kartini’s legacy holds a uniquely Indonesian resonance, one rooted in education, courage, and the awakening of women’s voices against limiting systems. At Nuanu, this spirit is not symbolic; it is lived, built, and led every day.
From boardrooms to construction grounds, from art studios to community programs, women at Nuanu are not only participants: they are leaders, builders, creators, and changemakers. This Kartini’s Day, Nuanu shifts the narrative from celebration to visibility: spotlighting women in action, impact, and leadership.
Voices of a Modern Kartini: Women of Nuanu
Here, the women of Nuanu share what Kartini’s legacy means to them through the work they do and the change they create every day.
Reflecting on identity and representation, Ida Ayu Astari Prada, Director of Brand & Communications, Nuanu Creative City, shares what Kartini's spirit means to her: "Kartini’s spirit lives through women who dare to define their own narratives. At Nuanu, we see Balinese women not only preserving culture, but leading how it evolves and is represented. For me, Kartini’s Day is about owning our voice, our identity, and our role in shaping creative ecosystems."
Kelsang Dolma, Director of Public Relations & Special Art Projects at Nuanu Creative City, offers a perspective shaped by her experience beyond Indonesia; one rooted in courage and claiming space: "Kartini Day is a reminder that women do not need to wait to be invited into the room. We build the room too. My journey at Nuanu, helping lead platforms like FOTO Bali Festival and Art & Bali, has shown me what it means to create space with intention and lead with conviction. As someone who comes from outside Indonesia yet feels deeply connected to its cultural spirit, I see Kartini’s legacy in that courage to step forward, shape culture, and help define where the conversation goes.”
Auditya Sari, Head of Nuanu Social Funds, connects Kartini’s legacy to community impact: "Kartini taught us that change begins with awareness and compassion. At Nuanu, empowering women means empowering communities. Through social programs, we create impact that extends far beyond ourselves. That is what Kartini’s legacy means to me today."
Most importantly, Silvia Maharani, Chief of Security, Nuanu Creative City, brings a strong perspective from the ground: "Kartini today is not only in offices. She is on the ground—managing teams, ensuring safety, and making sure everything runs. For us, Kartini’s Day is about proving that leadership has no single form—and that women can stand strong in every role."
A Living Ecosystem of Impact
As a 44-hectare creative city in Bali, Nuanu brings the spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini into the present, where women lead, build, and create impact every day across culture, community, and innovation.
By sharing these voices, Nuanu aims to inspire a new generation of women through stories that are real, relatable, and powerful. More than a celebration, this is a call to action: for young women to step forward, take space, and stand out to boldly shaping their own future.
